Is a Cyber Attack on my business a real possibility?

If you or your business has never suffered a cyber attack, you will probably feel it is rare and the statistics are exaggerated. As a comparison, varonis.com published a blog highlighting the probability of a cyber attack against other risks that we face every day.

Unfortunately, the probability of experiencing a cyber security breach or attack if you do nothing to protect your business is exceptionally high. Cybercriminals are constantly developing new tactics and tools to exploit vulnerabilities in networks, systems, and applications, and businesses of all sizes are at risk.

According to the Verizon 2021 Data Breach Investigations Report, 85% of breaches involved using stolen credentials or brute-force attacks, which means that you are still at risk even with strong passwords and policies. Additionally, the report found that 61% of breaches involved small businesses, demonstrating that no business is immune to cyber-attacks. [1]

The average cost of a data breach in 2021 was $4.24 million… 287 days to identify and contain a breach.

Furthermore, the cost of a cyber attack can be significant, both in terms of financial losses and damage to reputation. According to the 2021 Cost of a Data Breach Report by IBM, the average cost of a data breach in 2021 was $4.24 million USD, and it took an average of 287 days to identify and contain a breach. [2]

The probability of not experiencing a cyber security breach or attack if you do nothing to protect your business is very low. It is essential to take proactive measures to protect your business, such as implementing strong access controls, conducting regular security assessments, and monitoring your systems to react to attacks before the damage is done.
